Meet the Staff

Xavier Baker (Head Brewer / Production Director)
Probably the youngest, most respected 'award winning brewer of today. This adventurous but traditional brewer has been educated by one of the finest of all time brewers, Fred Martin, head brewer of King and Barnes for fifty years. He likes to relax by surfing and fishing.

Xavier also being a production director for the brewery has to oversee the production and entire process from the creating of the recipe, right through to casking and bottling the beer. He is also responsible for the maintenance of the plant and he also does not make a bad mug of coffee.

Airon Baker (Sales and Marketing Director )
It is Airs job to Market our products and sell to the trade, maintain our customer base. He worked in Media as a commercial producer before joining the brewery with a local TV station and then became promotions manager for Livingston’s/ Xenas nightclub in Ryde. He is very customer focused with modern ideas to help sell the beer!! He makes customer service a main priority of the service given by VB. Look for the new monthly beers we have coming on line.

Steve Baker (Chairman/Director )
Steve’s Job is to chair the operations meetings and ensure all the actions form the meetings are carried out. Steve is a Morris Dancer with The Men of Wight Morris Dancers, and also is Squire of a Traditional English Dance Side called Mr Baker’s Dozen. All are powered by Ventnor Brewery Beers.

Donna Baker ( Director /Ma Baker as she is known )
She is Wife and Mother to the Directors and keeps them all in line. Her other task is to keep track of all the casks and make sure they all are returned to the brewery. Between Morris Dancing with the Oyster Girls and Mr Baker’s Dozen

Colin Bond (Drayman)
Colin is our very own pin-up drayman, who delivers the beer all over the Island and many locations around the country.
He is well known at the ferry terminal for wearing shorts all year round. Those knees of his are something else!!
He listens to Radio Two on the road for traffic reports and goes by the handle of Pieman when he rings in to R2 with traffic reports, listen out for him.

Simon Newman ( Brewer )
Formerly a volunteer, Simon is now learning the dark art of brewing beer!! Not tea!! He is a bit of a petrol head as he spends his spare time at speedway and stock car racing.

Heidi ( The Book keeper )
This little treasure keeps the books in order writes the cheques and chases up all our bad payers ( very scary! ) there are not many though now.

Brian Newman (Volunteer)
Brian is a great help at the brewery to keep the casks clean and fit for fresh beer. He also helps with maintenance around the brewery. His main role though is chief taster and drinker in the Volunteer Pub around the corner from the brewery.
Brian is also an avid beer label collector. He will show you his collection if you ask him

Joanne Newman (Volunteer)
Is Brian’s long suffering angel of a wife who is glad Brian works at the Brewery. So she can get round and dust his collection of beer memorabilia!!
